A growing and highly respected engineering business is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its expanding technical team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on bespoke automation and special purpose machinery projects for globally recognised manufacturing customers within high-performance industrial sectors. This position offers genuine variety, technical ownership, and the opportunity to work across the full product lifecycle - from concept design through to manufacture, assembly, testing, and installation support.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing engineered solutions for bespoke machinery and automated systems. Projects will vary significantly in size and complexity, giving you exposure to a broad range of mechanical engineering challenges.

  • Producing 3D CAD models for special purpose machinery and automated systems
  • Creating manufacturing, assembly, and installation drawings
  • Supporting full design lifecycle activities from concept through to delivery
  • Participating in design reviews and technical discussions
  • Working closely with manufacturing and project teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
  • Supporting prototype development, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Contributing to innovative engineering solutions across multiple live projects

A minimum of 5 years experience within mechanical design engineering is required, along with strong 3D CAD experience (Inventor experience beneficial but not essential). Experience designing machinery, automation equipment, tooling, jigs, or mechanical systems is essential, as well as a good understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles. Experience within automotive, automation, industrial machinery, or special purpose machinery sectors is advantageous. Additional experience in pneumatics, machinery safety standards, or hands-on assembly/manufacturing would also be beneficial.

Salary: Β£40,000 - Β£45,000 depending on experience
