We are a well-established sheet metal fabrication and engineering business, specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of high-integrity fabricated products and secure metal systems. Supplying to highly regulated market spaces, we deliver engineered solutions where performance, compliance and reliability are critical.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team and support the development, testing and refinement of fabricated metal products from concept through to certification and production. The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the full product development lifecycle, combining practical design expertise with hands-on testing and close collaboration with fabrication and production teams. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys seeing designs taken from CAD to the shop floor, working with sheet metal, welded assemblies and certified products.
Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Lead design and prototype development for new and improved fabricated metal products
- Produce detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks preferred)
- Support material and performance testing in line with relevant standards (e.g. LPS 1175, BS EN 1522/3)
- Prepare test samples and support external test house activities, including witnessing tests and recording results
- Work closely with fabrication, production and suppliers to optimise designs for manufacture and assembly
- Research new materials, hardware and manufacturing methods relevant to sheet metal and structural fabrication
- Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test results and project outcomes
- Drive continuous improvement across the product range
About You as the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- HNC/HND or Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, welded assemblies and manufacturing processes
- Proficient in 3D CAD and technical drawing creation (SolidWorks preferred)
- Practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving
- Able to interpret and apply UK and EU engineering and testing standards
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Desirable Experience
- Experience designing for sheet metal, steel structures or fabricated products
- Exposure to forced-entry, ballistic or blast-resistant design
- Experience working with test houses or certification environments
- Knowledge of steel grades, fixings and hardware selection
