We are working with a well-established engineering business specialising in the design and build of special purpose machinery and automation systems. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their design team. This is a varied, hands-on role covering the full design lifecycle, from reverse engineering existing components through to developing new machinery, jigs, fixtures, and automation solutions.
The Role * Measure, interpret, and reverse-engineer existing (and sometimes damaged) machine parts and assemblies * Create accurate 3D models using SolidWorks * Carry out occasional customer site visits for measurements and technical assessments * Maintain standard parts within CAD and MRP systems * Raise purchase orders for materials and components * Design special purpose jigs, fixtures, machine automation, and mechanical components * Produce BOMs and maintain accurate project documentation through to completion * Support manufacturing, build, and commissioning activities About You * Engineering qualification (Apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or Degree) * Strong experience using SolidWorks / 3D CAD * Confident working from legacy 2D drawings and limited briefs * Background in mechanical design within machinery, automation, or manufacturing * Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Lean principles * Basic materials knowledge (steels essential; copper/alloys advantageous) * Strong attention to detail with good organisational skills Desirable Experience * Special purpose machinery, automation, or fixturing * Sheet metal and welded fabrication design * Working within manufacturing or quality-driven environments * Hands-on, practical engineering approach Whats on Offer * Early Friday finish (2pm) * Opportunity to work on full lifecycle engineering projects * Varied and technically interesting design work * Growing and stable engineering environment If this role sounds of interest to you, please apply today with your updated CV.
