An established engineering and manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to lead and develop a CAD function supporting production and new product development across multiple UK sites. This is a senior, hands-on role combining technical design, team leadership, and cross-functional collaboration, ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in mechanical design and fabrication.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a CAD team (4 engineers), including workload planning and timescale management
- Produce and review detailed production and manufacturing drawings
- Design new products, prototypes, and updates to existing systems
- Carry out design checks and provide technical guidance to CAD Engineers
- Liaise with project coordination teams and customers to gather technical requirements
- Attend and contribute to weekly production and project meetings
- Work closely with design and technical stakeholders on continuous improvements
- Ensure all drawings meet certification, quality, and customer requirements
- Support cost-effective design solutions in collaboration with suppliers
- Use AutoDesk Inventor for all design and drawing work
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in AutoDesk Inventor (2017 or similar)
- Proven ability to read and interpret technical engineering and construction drawings
- Previous experience leading or mentoring CAD / design teams
- Background in steel fabrication or manufacturing highly advantageous
- Knowledge of iLogic desirable
- Degree-qualified in an engineering discipline preferred
- Full UK driving licence and passport
- Ability to obtain security clearance
