Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer looking to grow your expertise in special purpose machinery and automated systems? This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, project-led engineering team designing bespoke automation solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. Working across the full project lifecycle — from early concepts through to detailed design, build support, and installation — you’ll play a key role in turning customer requirements into fully engineered, robust and cost-effective machinery. Occasional visits to customer sites across the UK will be required.
What You’ll Be Doing as a Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Developing mechanical concepts for bespoke special purpose machinery and robotic automation equipment
- Completing design calculations, verification work, and technical checks
- Managing project-related tasks including customer discussions, design reviews, specification of bought-in components, and BOM creation
- Supporting CE marking, risk assessments, and compliance documentation
- Providing technical guidance to system build and controls teams throughout the project
What We’re Looking For in a Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Proven mechanical design and concept development experience — ideally within special purpose machinery or automated equipment
- Ability to create innovative, practical solutions that balance performance, cost, and customer requirements
- Good understanding of British standards, geometric tolerances, and producing accurate design calculations
- Familiarity with sheet metalwork, machined components, welded fabrications, and mechanical assembly methods
- Self-driven, clear communicator, and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary engineering team
- A good appreciation of electrical control systems is advantageous
