Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer ready to take the next step in your career and move into a position with greater technical leadership and responsibility? We’re working with a specialist engineering organisation operating at the forefront of defence and advanced engineering, developing highly technical products and systems for demanding applications.

They’re looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Electrical Lead Engineer to join their engineering team, providing technical leadership across a team of engineers and technicians while remaining hands-on with the design and development of innovative products.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining technical expertise, problem-solving and people leadership. You’ll provide technical direction across a team of engineers and technicians, supporting their development while continuing to play an active role in electrical design and product development. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, customers and suppliers, you’ll help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required technical and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and direction to engineers and technicians
  • Mentor and support the professional development of engineering team members
  • Lead and contribute to electrical design and product development activities
  • Manage technical workloads, priorities and engineering requirements
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers on technical matters
  • Support product testing, validation and qualification activities
  • Ensure engineering processes, procedures and quality standards are maintained
  • Identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of engineering processes and capabilities

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced electrical engineer with a strong technical background and the confidence to provide guidance and leadership to others. You’ll ideally have:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 5+ years’ engineering experience
  • Strong electrical engineering and problem-solving capabilities
  • A sound understanding of engineering principles, processes and best practice
  • Experience mentoring, coaching or technically guiding other engineers
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with customers and suppliers
  • Strong 3D modelling and simulation capabilities
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and processes
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
  • A flexible, proactive approach with a willingness to learn and adopt new engineering techniques

Desirable Experience

Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Autodesk Inventor
  • AutoCAD Electrical
  • Altium
  • Previous engineering or technical leadership experience
  • Environmental, shock and vibration testing
  • Systems engineering and the Engineering V-Model
  • Defence and/or aerospace engineering
  • ISO 9001 / AS9100
  • Product qualification and validation

Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be British Citizens and SC Cleared or eligible and willing to obtain SC security clearance.
