Mechanical Design Engineer | Outside IR35 | West Midlands


We're supporting a well-established engineering and manufacturing business that designs and delivers complex mechanical equipment for highly regulated industries.


Due to increased project demand, they are looking to engage an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on an initial 6-month contract to support a range of new product development and engineering projects.


The Role


Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll be responsible for developing mechanical design solutions from concept through to manufacture, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, industry standards and internal engineering processes.


Key Responsibilities



  • Develop innovative mechanical design solutions to meet customer requirements.

  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.

  • Carry out engineering calculations and design validation activities.

  • Support prototype development, testing and product improvement initiatives.

  • Liaise with manufacturing teams to support production and resolve technical issues.

  • Work closely with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and regulations.

  • Support design reviews, risk assessments and continuous improvement activities.


Experience Required



  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Significant experience within a Mechanical Design Engineering position.

  • Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks or similar.

  • Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.

  • Ability to undertake engineering calculations and mechanical analysis.

  • Experience working within complex engineering or manufacturing environments.

  • Defence, marine, offshore, oil & gas or other highly regulated industries.

  • Hydraulic systems, fluid power equipment, pressure systems or rotating equipment.

  • Experience supporting products through design, testing and manufacture.

  • Previous experience leading technical packages of work.
