The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and refining mechanical components and systems to meet functional, aesthetic, regulatory, and commercial requirements. You will work across the full design lifecycle, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions from concept through to production. Your primary focus will initially be within aerospace programmes, with opportunities to work across other industries as projects evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems, components, and assemblies in line with project requirements
  • Develop efficient, cost-effective, and manufacturable engineering solutions
  • Produce detailed CAD models, including part modelling, surfacing, and large assembly design
  • Develop and support prototypes, including functional and performance testing
  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues throughout development and production phases
  • Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, quality, and project teams to ensure seamless integration
  • Support manufacturing processes, including materials selection, supplier interaction, and design feasibility
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including design specifications, test plans, and manufacturing instructions
  • Present design rationale, analysis, and test results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to engineering innovation
  • Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and industry requirements

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with strong technical capability and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent industry/apprenticeship experience)
  • 3 years of experience in a mechanical design engineering role
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software, ideally 3DEXPERIENCE / CATIA V5 (or similar such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD)
  • Experience in 3D modelling, surfacing, and working within complex assemblies
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes and materials selection
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable Experience:

  • Aerospace, automotive, or other regulated engineering industry experience - working in a Design Consultancy would be highly beneficial
  • Knowledge of metallic and composite manufacturing processes
  • Exposure to prototyping and mechanical testing
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing (3D printing) and CNC machining
  • Experience with PLM systems and engineering data management tools
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems
  • Knowledge of advanced design methods such as kinematics, automation, or generative design techniques
  • Additional language skills (Spanish would be an advantage)
