An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established, internationally recognised engineering and technology business at the forefront of developing innovative environmental and industrial process solutions. This Mechanical Design Engineer position offers the chance to become part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for developing robust, high-quality products from concept through to production.

The Role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design activities across a range of customer-driven projects, transforming application requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions. Working closely with engineering, production and commercial teams, you will be involved throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring designs are innovative, reliable and cost-effective whilst maintaining the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical design solutions for customer projects as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Develop practical and robust solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Create and maintain 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings and assemblies.
  • Validate designs through analysis, prototyping and testing activities.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Drive product standardisation and modular design initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain product data within ERP systems.
  • Investigate product issues, identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support manufacturing teams to ensure products are built right first time.
  • Review customer specifications and provide practical engineering input throughout project delivery.

About You

To be successful in this Mechanical Design Engineer role, you will be a technically strong engineer with experience taking products from concept through to manufacture and production. You should have:

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong experience in mechanical design and product development.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and 2D technical drawings (Inventor or similar CAD packages).
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacture principles.
  • A strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and product lifecycle development.
  • A hands-on, analytical and problem-solving approach.

Desirable Experience

  • Multi-disciplinary product development environments.
  • Water treatment, process engineering or industrial equipment.
  • CAD automation tools.
  • Structural analysis and FEA.
  • Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) compliance.
  • High-value capital equipment design.
  • Metal fabrication, engineering polymers and sealing technologies.
