Are you a hands-on technician who loves bringing ideas to life? Do you enjoy building, tinkering, testing, and solving real-world engineering problems? If so, this is the role for you.
We’re working with a world-class engineering and manufacturing company that specialises in sensor technology and scientific instrumentation – one of only two companies globally operating in this niche sector. As part of their continued growth, they’re looking for a Development Technician to support both production and design functions.
This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll get involved in everything from prototype builds and assembly, to mechanical testing, BOM creation, and 3D CAD work. You’ll be working closely with both design and production engineers, helping to bring complex, multi-disciplinary products to life.
They’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, who’s confident using tools like manual lathes, mills, and general workshop equipment, as well as 3D CAD software. It’s a great opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of unique, precision products.
And if you’ve got your own 3D printer, enjoy engineering side projects, or spend your spare time building, modifying, or experimenting – they want to hear about it! This is a team that values passion, curiosity, and self-starters.
What you’ll be doing as a Development Engineer:
- Supporting the engineering team with prototype builds, mechanical assembly, and functional testing
- Writing and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Creating and editing designs using 3D CAD systems (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)
- Using workshop tools including manual lathes and mills
- Contributing to continuous product improvement and development projects
- Working collaboratively across production and design teams
What they’re looking for in a Development Engineer:
- Strong mechanical engineering knowledge and hands-on workshop experience
- Confident using both 3D CAD and traditional machine tools
- Experience with prototyping, assembly, and mechanical testing
- A dynamic, proactive approach – someone who’s happy to take initiative
- Any personal or extracurricular projects that show your passion for engineering – 3D printing, home builds, RC projects, etc. – tell us all about them!
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a genuinely exciting business where you’ll have the chance to work on cutting-edge technology, see your ideas come to life, and contribute directly to the design and delivery of world-class products.
