Location: Derby (Hybrid/Site-Based as Required)

Contract: 6–12 Month Contract (Potential Extension) Outside IR35 £400 per day

Overview: We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Project Engineer to support the delivery of industrial automation and renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will be multi-disciplined, capable of working across electrical design, PLC systems, and SCADA platforms while supporting project delivery from design through to commissioning. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys varied responsibilities and can work independently within a fast-paced project environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of industrial control and automation projects.
  • Produce and modify electrical designs and associated documentation.
  • Carry out PLC fault finding, modifications and probing activities.
  • Configure, develop and troubleshoot SCADA systems.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Controls Engineers and commissioning teams.
  • Assist with system integration, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with relevant standards and project specifications.
  • Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Multi-disciplined engineering background with strong electrical knowledge.
  • Experience in electrical design for industrial control systems.
  • Practical PLC troubleshooting and modification experience.
  • Experience working with SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Schneider Electric PLC platforms.
  • Experience using Iconics SCADA software.
  • Ability to work across multiple engineering disciplines within project environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience delivering projects within industrial automation, controls, manufacturing or renewable energy sectors.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience on renewable energy or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Commissioning experience.
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks and field instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with control panel design and electrical schematics.

Working Arrangement:

Contract position. Hybrid working available, with regular attendance at the Derby office and project sites as required. Engineers willing to travel or temporarily relocate for the duration of the project are encouraged to apply.

Ideal Candidate:

You will be a proactive Project Engineer who is comfortable working across electrical design, PLCs and SCADA systems. You should be capable of turning your hand to a variety of engineering tasks and supporting projects from initial design through commissioning, with particular experience using Schneider Electric and Iconics platforms.
