I am seeking to appoint an excellent experienced SEN Teacher to an Outstanding (Ofsted) SEN school for pupils from 11-19 with autism based in Lewisham. The school benefits from excellent staffing ratios, small class sizes and a highly personalised approach to learning. The team are expanding and this is an exciting opportunity to join their 6th form site, teaching in Post 16. The class consists of 9 pupils from KS5 with Autism, SLD and some mental health and behavioural challenges. Behaviour can on occasions be challenging but to combat this the class is supported by 4 full time TAs and there are clear strategies in place for each of the children.

This Lewisham school offers state of the art purpose built facilities accessible to all students including those with visual impairment. These include:

  • Hydrotherapy pool with sensory environment.
  • Specially adapted and equipped science, art, music and technology rooms.
  • A Sensory room.
  • Specially equipped playground.
  • Two minibuses for use in the community.

The Ideal Applicant:

A background teaching secondary aged pupils with complex ASD and low communication skills (PECS & Makaton) is desirable. In addition to the class teacher role there is the possibility of a TLR in the next 12 months as the current ASD lead will be taking on broader leadership responsibilities across the school in the next 12 months as the school re-shapes its leadership model as part of succession planning for the next two to three years. The school are happy for applications from those with recent experience in a UK SEN environment including Overseas Trained Teachers (OTTs) either with QTS or with the possibility of obtaining QTS in the next 6-12 months. The School are happy to consider applicants from a mainstream or PRU background and there is an excellent induction programme in place for all teachers. Interviews to be arranged ASAP! Please apply now.
