The Role
- Personalised Support: Provide tailored 1:1 and small‑group support to help students access the curriculum and develop effective coping strategies.
- Behaviour Management: Use positive behaviour support and de‑escalation techniques to promote a calm and safe learning environment.
- Emotional & Social Development: Build trusting relationships, offer emotional guidance, and help students develop resilience, self‑regulation, and improved self‑esteem.
- Collaboration: Work in partnership with teachers, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure consistent and holistic support for each student.
- Team Teach: Team Teach training is desirable but not essential — successful candidates will receive free Team Teach training.
Requirements
- Experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant or in a similar role supporting students with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Strong empathy, patience, and commitment to helping young people overcome social and emotional barriers.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships.
- Adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
- Understanding of behaviour management approaches is advantageous, though full training will be provided.
