A mainstream primary school in Middlesbrough is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child who is pre-verbal and highly sensory-seeking. This is a full-time, long-term role running for the remainder of the academic year, with the potential to extend.

The school is looking for someone who can:

  • Build a trusting, consistent relationship with a young child who requires structure, patience and predictable routines.
  • Support sensory regulation, communication development and engagement in Early Years learning.
  • Work confidently with pre-verbal children, using visual aids, modelling language, sensory strategies and play-based communication.
  • Follow guidance from the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to deliver an individual support plan.
  • Be reliable, nurturing and able to remain calm while supporting behaviours linked to sensory needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally Autism, sensory processing needs or delayed communication.
  • Experience in Early Years or Reception is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to commit full-time for the remainder of the academic year.
  • Strong communication, professionalism and a child-centred approach.
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.
