A friendly, inclusive and successful two-form entry primary school in Croydon is seeking a caring and committed SEN Learning Support Assistant to join its supportive team on a fixed-term basis. The role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to provide effective classroom and pastoral support to pupils across the school, with a particular focus on children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEN). The school has a caring and positive ethos, strong family values and a commitment to staff development. The Role - SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
  • Support children of all abilities to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  • Work alongside class teachers to support learning and development.
  • Deliver appropriate interventions to support individual pupil needs.
  • Help pupils develop their confidence, independence and learning skills.
  • Provide classroom and playground support across the school.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with individual pupils and groups.
  • Adapt support and activities to meet the needs of individual children.
  • Maintain high expectations for pupil behaviour, progress and achievement.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other members of the school team.

The Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant

  • Has an NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Has experience working within a primary school environment.
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND, which would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Has a caring, positive and nurturing approach to working with children.
  • Holds high expectations of pupils and themselves.
  • Is flexible, committed and willing to go the extra mile for pupils.
  • Has strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Can plan and deliver appropriate interventions.
  • Is confident working with children of different ages and abilities.
  • Is able to work effectively as part of a busy and inclusive school team.
  • Understands and respects the distinctive nature of a Church of England school.
