Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or aspiring SENCO looking to take the next step in your career? A welcoming primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a SENCO Assistant to work closely with the school's SENCO and wider inclusion team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong SEND experience who is interested in developing their knowledge of SEN coordination, EHCPs and supporting pupils with additional needs.
The SENCO Assistant role
As a SENCO Assistant, you will support the SENCO with the day-to-day coordination of SEND provision across the school while also working directly with pupils. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the SENCO with the implementation of SEND provision and individual support plans
- Working with teachers and TAs to ensure pupils' needs are effectively supported
- Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs and SEMH
- Helping to monitor pupil progress and contribute to observations and assessments
- Supporting the organisation and review of EHCP-related documentation
- Working with parents, teachers and external professionals where appropriate
- Delivering targeted one-to-one and small-group interventions
- Helping to ensure pupils receive consistent, inclusive and personalised support
The ideal SENCO Assistant
The school is looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a primary school
- A strong understanding of SEND and inclusive practice
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs or individual learning plans
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- A calm, patient and proactive approach
- A genuine interest in progressing within the SEND sector
- A relevant Level 3 qualification, degree or experience working towards a career in education/SEND would be advantageous.
