The KS3 Subject Specialist Teacher will be responsible for delivering high‑quality, autism‑informed teaching in Science to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. The post holder will adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the individual needs of pupils in a small‑class specialist setting, ensuring learning is accessible, meaningful and ambitious while supporting pupils' communication, emotional regulation, independence and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess high‑quality, adapted lessons.
- Adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the needs of pupils with ASC and associated needs.
- Use autism‑specific and evidence‑based approaches, including:
- Visual supports and structured teaching.
- Clear routines and predictable lesson structures.
- Sensory and regulation strategies.
- Communication‑supportive approaches.
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
Pupil Development & Wellbeing
- Implement positive behaviour and regulation strategies in line with the school's autism‑informed approach.
- Maintain high expectations for both learning and behaviour.
- Ensure safeguarding and pupil welfare are always a priority.
Person Specification
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Strong subject knowledge in Science.
- Experience of teaching pupils in KS3.
- Substantial experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting.
