The KS3 Subject Specialist Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality, autism-informed teaching in Mathematics to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated needs. The post holder will adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the individual needs of pupils in a small-class specialist setting, ensuring learning is accessible, meaningful, and ambitious while supporting pupils' communication, emotional regulation, independence, and wellbeing. Significant experience of working with and supporting pupils with ASC is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality, adapted lessons.
- Adapt the KS3 curriculum to meet the needs of pupils with ASC and associated needs.
- Use visual supports and structured teaching.
- Establish clear routines and predictable lesson structures.
- Implement sensory and regulation strategies.
- Utilise communication-supportive approaches.
- Create a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment.
EHCPs, SEND & Outcomes
- Deliver provision aligned to pupils' EHCP outcomes.
- Conduct annual reviews and progress reports.
- Set targets and engage in multi-disciplinary planning.
- Work closely with therapists and other professionals to support integrated and consistent provision.
- Maintain accurate and high-quality records of progress and provision.
Professional Responsibilities
- Uphold the Teachers' Standards.
- Follow school policies, safeguarding procedures, and statutory guidance.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with parents/carers.
- Contribute to whole-school development and improvement.
- Participate in meetings, training, reviews, and school events as required.
Person Specification
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Experience of teaching pupils in KS3.
- Substantial experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ideally in a specialist or SEND setting.
