What will be your role within the classroom as a Health Care Assistant?
- Working closely with parents and reporting back on pupil's progress across the borough of Lambeth
- Preparing the classroom, ready for the school day
- Working with children on a 1:1 basis as well as in small groups
- Providing personal care
- Observing and monitoring children's behaviour and health
- Assisting secondary aged students with a focus on independence and life skills
The Health Care Assistant Role
We are looking for resilient and caring individuals who are looking to make a transition to become an SEN Teaching Assistant who have a Health Care Assistant background. As a Health Care Assistant you will be working with various complex needs, within Special Needs Schools and in the classroom environment and support them in the classroom during lessons.

What does Autism mean?
Autism which is often abbreviated to ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) could mean that individuals may have trouble with the following: Anxiety, communication, social interaction, repetitive and restrictive behaviour, varied sensitivity to certain senses such as; light, sound, taste and touch. Children with Autism may rely on different ways to communicate this maybe through PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or Makaton (a type of sign language).
What does PMLD mean?
Children with PMLD will have more than one disability, this could mean they may have trouble with the following: communication, hearing and visual impairments, physical disabilities, and mental health difficulties. Many individuals with profound multiple learning difficulties rely on different ways to communicate this maybe through such as PECS and Makaton.
What does SLD mean?
SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) is applied to a child who finds it difficult to understand, learn and remember new skills and has trouble adapting their skills to daily life. Difficulties may be further compounded by emotional and behavioural issues, difficulties with communication, or within a diagnosed condition like autism. The term is loosely applied to children with a significantly low score in a formal IQ test, which can be measured by an educational psychologist.
