An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and committed Pastoral Support Worker to join a highly successful and popular 11-19 secondary school in East London. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Pastoral Support Worker who is dedicated to improving the well-being, behaviour, attendance, and academic outcomes of young people within a vibrant inner-city school community.
Start Date: Monday 1st June 2026
Fixed-term maternity cover until March 2027
Term-time only - 36 hours per week
Salary: (£28,550 - £33,529 per annum)

ABOUT THE ROLE - PASTORAL SUPPORT WORKER:
The school is seeking a proactive, resilient, and highly motivated Pastoral Support Worker to play a key role in supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. The successful Pastoral Support Worker will work closely with Heads of Year, senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure students are fully supported both academically and emotionally. This is an incredibly rewarding role for a skilled Pastoral Support Worker who thrives on building positive relationships and helping young people achieve more than they thought possible.
THE SUCCESSFUL PASTORAL SUPPORT WORKER WILL:
- Support the running of the school's reset room alongside pastoral leaders
- Work directly with students displaying challenging behaviour and disengagement from learning
- Mentor key students and provide targeted pastoral interventions
- Lead small group interventions and behaviour support programmes
- Support high standards of behaviour, attitudes, attendance, and school culture
- Investigate behavioural incidents, take statements, and support restorative approaches
- Build strong relationships with parents/carers and external agencies
- Support students during break times, lunchtimes, detentions, and enrichment activities
- Maintain accurate pastoral records and contribute to safeguarding processes
- Support students with reintegration, attendance, well-being, and academic engagement
THE IDEAL PASTORAL SUPPORT WORKER WILL HAVE:
- Previous experience working as a Pastoral Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker, or similar role within a secondary school
- Excellent behaviour management and communication skills
- A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
- The ability to build positive and professional relationships with young people
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- A proactive approach to safeguarding and student well-being
- Experience working with vulnerable or disengaged students
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to succeed
