A fantastic school in Central/East London is looking to appoint a team of graduates to fill Economics Academic Mentor roles. This 1‑year permanent contract provides experience in a secondary school setting and is aimed at graduates who wish to apply for teacher training in September 2027 or who are passionate about working with young people who may not be pursuing a teaching career.

The school caters for students across the age and ability range and currently has learners who display a range of needs. It seeks well‑qualified graduates who can work as learning mentors and graduate teaching assistants on a 1‑to‑1 and small group basis, focusing on raising attainment, participation, confidence and self‑esteem.
Responsibilities
- Work with school staff to select students for mentoring
- Discuss the aims of mentoring with pupils
- Support pupils inside and outside of the classroom
- Agree on and write action plans
- Make occasional home visits to talk to parents and offer advice on strategies to address problems
- Liaise with schools, teachers, social workers and educational psychologists, making referrals where appropriate
- Aid pupils with the transition to secondary education
- Help pupils increase their confidence and self‑esteem by listening and devising appropriate strategies
Requirements
- Related undergraduate degree (e.g., Economics or a comparable subject)
- Experience acting as a mentor or tutor at university level is desirable
- Interest in applying for a teacher training programme in September 2027, or a passion for working with young people
- Ability to work 1‑to‑1 and in small group settings with students of varied ability
The position is set to commence on 1 September 2026. This is a 1‑year contract with the prospect of a permanent role.
