The role
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that build secure foundations in reading, writing and mathematics.
- Assess pupils' learning and use the information to plan clear next steps.
- Establish consistent routines and create a calm, positive classroom environment.
- Adapt teaching so pupils with different strengths and needs can participate and make progress.
- Work closely with teaching assistants and other colleagues to support learning across the class.
- Communicate appropriately with families and staff about pupils' learning and wellbeing.
A long-term assignment allows a teacher to get to know a class, build strong relationships and contribute to wider school life. Key Stage 1 teachers may also draw on their knowledge of phonics, early language development and the transition from Reception into Year 1.
The ideal candidate
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status and has recent primary classroom experience.
- Is confident teaching Year 1 or Year 2 and understands the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
- Uses assessment and feedback to help pupils take their next steps.
- Can adapt lessons for pupils with SEND and varied learning needs.
- Builds positive relationships with children, colleagues and families.
