Location: West London

Hours: 25 hours a week (Monday-Friday) to be delivered flexibly

Pay: £30 per hour

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND tutor to support a 12-year-old autistic child with ASD and SEMH needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive and responsive learning environment. You will be working two-to-one with the young person, primarily within an SEN setting based in West London.

This role will require some planning and feedback to be delivered to parents and multi-disciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a differentiated curriculum working in core subjects
  • Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the young person's pace and preferences
  • Use positive, non-directive methods to support learning and engagement
  • Focus on independent living skills and literacy
  • Respect and support the young person's independence while remaining available to step in before overwhelm
  • Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
  • Encourage initiation, allow time for processing, and offer flexible choices
  • Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
  • Use alternative communication techniques such as Makaton, visual timetables, pictures, and symbols
  • Be willing to accompany the young person to safe and familiar places that support well-being and learning

Essential Qualities:

  • Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
  • Able to differentiate lessons based on the student's needs
  • Experience working with students with SEMH is desired but not essential
  • Experience with AAC, Makaton, or PECS
  • Flexibility
  • Travel to the home in West London
