We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEND tutor to support a 12-year-old autistic child with ASD and SEMH needs. This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child's life by creating a positive and responsive learning environment. You will be working two-to-one with the young person, primarily within an SEN setting based in West London.
This role will require some planning and feedback to be delivered to parents and multi-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver a differentiated curriculum working in core subjects
- Build trust and emotional safety by attuning to the young person's pace and preferences
- Use positive, non-directive methods to support learning and engagement
- Focus on independent living skills and literacy
- Respect and support the young person's independence while remaining available to step in before overwhelm
- Identify and anticipate sensory and emotional triggers
- Encourage initiation, allow time for processing, and offer flexible choices
- Promote emotional regulation through calm and consistent presence
- Use alternative communication techniques such as Makaton, visual timetables, pictures, and symbols
- Be willing to accompany the young person to safe and familiar places that support well-being and learning
Essential Qualities:
- Experience working with autistic children or children with complex SEN
- Able to differentiate lessons based on the student's needs
- Experience working with students with SEMH is desired but not essential
- Experience with AAC, Makaton, or PECS
- Flexibility
- Travel to the home in West London
