Are you passionate about helping children grow academically, socially and emotionally? We are looking for a warm, committed and enthusiastic Student Learning Mentor to join our friendly primary school team from October 2026, supporting pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who loves working with children, enjoys being a positive role model, and is keen to make a real difference every day.
About this Student Learning Mentor Role
As a Student Learning Mentor, you will work closely with pupils who need extra guidance to help them overcome barriers to learning. You will support their emotional wellbeing, encourage positive behaviour, and help them build confidence and resilience so they can achieve their best. This role would be particularly suited to a psychology graduate or someone interested in social care.
Key Responsibilities of a Student Learning Mentor
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with challenging home lives and SEMH
- Build strong, trusting relationships to support confidence, motivation and positive behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams and social workers to deliver targeted support
- Contribute to a calm, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
- Adapt flexibly to the needs of the pupils and the school day
What We're Looking For
- A proactive, reliable and compassionate learning mentor who genuinely enjoys working with children
- Patience, emotional maturity and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Common sense and a working knowledge of safeguarding
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships quickly
- Experience in schools, childcare, youth work or mentoring (desirable, not essential)
- Good general knowledge in English and Maths to support pupils confidently
