A SEN Teaching Assistant may work with different pupils from one assignment to another, including children who require support with communication, learning, attention, emotional regulation or social interaction. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, your role is to remove barriers to learning while encouraging pupils to participate as independently as possible.
Day-to-Day SEN Teaching Assistant Duties:
- Providing focused 1:1 support.
- Delivering teacher-planned small-group activities.
- Breaking learning into manageable steps.
- Using visual prompts or structured routines where appropriate.
- Supporting communication and interaction.
- Helping pupils remain engaged during lessons.
- Following individual strategies and EHCP outcomes.
- Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Communicating observations to teachers and SEN staff.
