Do you have a spare bedroom in your home and a genuine desire to make a difference for a parent and their young baby or toddler? At Rees Fostering, we are looking for caring, patient and resilient people to provide a safe and nurturing home environment for parents who need extra guidance and support to build their confidence and parenting skills.

If you have experience working with families perhaps as a midwife, maternity nurse, nursery worker, or in a community or support role this could be an opportunity to use your skills in a new and rewarding way.

As a Parent and Child Foster Carer, you'll welcome a parent and their baby or toddler into your home for a period of approximately 12 weeks. You'll work alongside our dedicated team of social workers and professionals to support the parent to develop their parenting capacity in a calm, safe and encouraging environment. You'll play a vital role in helping a family stay together and thrive using respect, empathy, empowerment and support to help build independence and confidence.

Location: Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Herefordshire, Sandwell, Shropshire, Solihull, Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Telford and Wrekin, Walsall, Warwickshire, Wolverhampton and Worcestershire

Essential Requirements:

  • A spare bedroom that provides enough space for a parent and their child, including room for a single bed, cot or Moses basket, wardrobe and chest of drawers.
  • Time and flexibility to care for a parent and their child full-time
  • A genuine interest in supporting families, while respecting and valuing them as individuals
  • Ability to take parent and child to appointments and attend meetings/training as required
  • Good spoken English and basic IT skills (or willingness to learn)
  • Aged 21 or over
  • British Citizenship, Indefinite Leave to Remain, or EU Settled Status (Student, Post-Study or Work Visas are not eligible)

Desirable:

  • Good written English and record-keeping skills
  • Access to a computer or tablet
  • Able to drive, or willing to learn (depending on local transport links)
  • At home full time or with flexibility in other commitments

Experience:

  • No prior fostering experience is necessary as full training and support are provided.
  • Previous experience of parenting, childminding, fostering, or working with children, families or vulnerable adults is beneficial, but not essential.

The assessment process usually takes around 4-6 months and includes free training, background checks, and references (including an enhanced DBS).

Financial Package:

While foster carers are not salaried employees, you will receive a generous weekly allowance when you have a parent and child placed with you. This covers the costs of caring for them and reflects your skills and commitment. Allowance: Earn between £800-£1,300 per week, with generous tax relief available for foster carers. Additional payments: Start Up Grant up to £1000, Refer a friend scheme, Holiday allowance.
