Our expertise spans film and television productions, music and live events, sports and motorsport, venues, promoters and associated service providers.

We are seeking an experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our small underwriting team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a unique portfolio of entertainment risks while helping to shape the future growth of the business.

The Role

The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting and managing a portfolio of commercial property and casualty business across the entertainment sector.

The successful candidate will play a key role in creating, maintaining and developing broker relationships, driving profitable growth, and supporting the development of junior underwriting talent.

Working closely with the Regional Head of Underwriting and wider underwriting team, you will contribute to the strategic growth of the portfolio while ensuring underwriting discipline, technical excellence, and outstanding service delivery.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience underwriting commercial property and casualty risks and will be motivated by the opportunity to work within the dynamic entertainment industry, particularly motorsport and live events.

Existing broker relationships and the ability to generate new business opportunities will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting & Portfolio Management
  • Underwrite new and renewal commercial property and casualty business in accordance with delegated authority guidelines and underwriting appetite.
  • Assess risk exposures, coverage requirements, pricing adequacy, and policy terms and conditions.
  • Negotiate coverage, pricing, and terms with brokers to achieve profitable growth objectives.
  • Manage an existing portfolio of entertainment-related accounts while maintaining strong retention levels.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, and emerging risks, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions are fully documented and compliant with internal governance standards.
  • Work collaboratively with claims, operations, and compliance teams to deliver effective client outcomes.
  • Business Development
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and key market stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with the MGA's growth strategy.
  • Leverage existing broker and client relationships to contribute to portfolio expansion.
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, networking functions, and market meetings.
  • Promote the MGA's specialist entertainment insurance proposition within the market.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to colleagues across the underwriting team.
  • Support the continuous development of underwriting guidelines, products, and risk selection strategies.
  • Assist with referrals, complex risks, and large account reviews.
  • Contribute to portfolio reviews and management reporting for senior leadership.
  • Training & Mentorship
  • Coach, train and support junior underwriters and underwriting assistants to enhance underwriting capability across the team.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance underwriting culture.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience underwriting commercial property and casualty risks.
  • Ideally 5-10 years of underwriting experience, mentoring and/or leading a team
  • Strong technical underwriting knowledge across property and liability classes.
  • Proven ability to manage and grow profitable portfolios.
  • Experience developing and maintaining broker relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting less experienced underwriters.

Desirable

  • Exposure to entertainment, live events, or motorsport-related risks.
  • Existing broker network and relationships relevant to the entertainment or specialist commercial insurance market.
  • Knowledge of international or multinational insurance programmes.
  • Professional insurance qualifications (ACII, Dip CII, or equivalent).
