Join the local authority in Leeds as a Workshop Manager, where you will be responsible for the overall management of the Authority’s vehicle maintenance operation and workshop. This role is crucial in leading the management and delivery of a customer-focused, safe, efficient, and comprehensive repairs and maintenance service. You will work closely with the Fleet General Manager to support strategic management and development of fleet operations.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Oversee the vehicle maintenance operation and workshop, ensuring compliance with Operator Licence obligations and all statutory and regulatory guidelines including DVSA, Road Traffic Act, and Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Increase productivity and reduce costs within agreed service standard frameworks, contributing to wider service improvements.
- Develop and deliver strategic business improvement plans for Fleet Services.
- Manage effective budget within the service area in accordance with financial regulations.
- Develop and maintain systems to monitor and control costs, achieving financial and performance KPIs.
- Maintain effective relationships with all Council Directorates, external partners, and agencies.
- Provide leadership and management to create a high-performance culture driving continuous improvement and organisational efficiencies.
- Ensure business continuity and risk management procedures are in place.
- Manage the Inspection, MOT, and ATF facility and staff to improve productivity and increase income.
- Develop and maintain performance management reporting focused on Best Value and Service Improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification.
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance, Road Transport Legislation, and Health & Safety legislation within a workshop environment.
- Proven experience managing a workshop in the Commercial/Heavy Goods/Plant sector.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a multi-skilled workforce.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
- Strong communication skills, capable of developing productive working relationships.
- Experience in budget management and financial oversight.
