Job Description

Street Lighting Engineering Designer
  • Annual Salary: £31,372 – £41,438 (depending on levels of experience) 
  • Location: Doncaster
  • Job Type: Full-time, Hybrid

We are seeking a Street Lighting Engineering Designer to join a leading public sector organisation. This role involves undertaking street lighting design related to major highways schemes, housing developments, and maintenance projects. You will have the opportunity to work either as a project manager or as a member of a team of engineering/technical staff.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Conduct feasibility studies for street lighting schemes to provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Assess and procure survey requirements necessary for detailed design, including traffic counts and topographical surveys.
  • Handle detailed design and procurement of street lighting schemes.
  • Liaise, program, and manage works carried out by Northern Power Grid or an Independent Connection Provider, ensuring these works do not adversely affect the scheme programme.
  • Prepare contract documents as required.
  • Supervise contractors, agree on measurements and valuations, and arrange payments.
  • Produce financial, progress, and performance reports to support management in effectively reporting to internal or external funders, such as Sheffield City Region.
  • Engage in consultation with internal and external stakeholders including Elected Members, S.Y. Police, SYPTE, Network Rail, developers, and community groups.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified to HNC in an Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in delivering street lighting schemes.
  • Technical knowledge related to street lighting.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities under CDM Regulations and other relevant Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Awareness of the NEC Engineering and Construction Contract.
  • Ability to work alone or lead a project team.
  • Experience in the use of computers, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Lighting Reality, and other bespoke packages used in design.
  • Understanding of Council Financial Procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
