Project Worker – Resettlement Team
- Contract Type: Temporary, Full-time
- Hourly Rate: £17.29 PAYE (Umbrella rate available)
- Location: LS3, Leeds
Join our Resettlement Team, dedicated to providing crucial support and advice to refugees under the Afghanistan Resettlement Programme (ARP). This role focuses on helping individuals adjust to life in the UK, facilitating access to services, and fostering community integration.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for refugees, ensuring the service meets all statutory and contractual requirements.
- Conduct initial assessments for new arrivals to ensure timely and appropriate referrals.
- Facilitate access to essential NHS services such as GPs, dentists, and opticians.
- Assist refugees in understanding UK systems and support them in accessing financial aid and legal documentation like National Insurance Numbers and bank accounts.
- Collaborate with various organisations to deliver cross-service projects aimed at achieving positive outcomes.
- Organise and participate in day outings to support families in familiarising themselves with their new surroundings.
- Use interpreters effectively, assessing the need for and complexity of required translations, and ensuring clear communication with residents.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions, actions taken, and advice provided. Serve as a liaison between local and central government to address and escalate issues.
- Uphold and act in accordance with Leeds City Council's Safeguarding Policy to protect children and vulnerable adults.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven ability to communicate complex information to clients who may be distressed or confused.
- Excellent listening skills with the capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information empathetically.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Strong command of English, both spoken and written, with professional communication skills.
- Competent in using IT tools such as Excel, word processing, and email.
- Ability to plan, organise, and manage own workload, adapt to changing circumstances, and meet deadlines.
- Experience in preparing and presenting regular reports and maintaining up-to-date work records.
