Job Description
Join a local accountancy firm in Ashford as an Accountant Lead/Manager. This senior management role involves overseeing a team responsible for managing the VAT processes for a varied portfolio of clients, with direct client management as relationships. This role would also be ideal for candidates with experience in the construction sector and knowledge of CIS.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage and support a team of junior staff members, overseeing their work with a diverse client portfolio.
- As familiarity with clients increases, manage a select group of client accounts directly.
- Ensure compliance and accurate handling of all VAT-related processes.
- Provide strategic input and support to the director, aligning team activities with broader business goals.
- Train and develop team members on accounting systems and processes, including Iris, QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, and Kashflow.
- Conduct VAT investigations and handle VAT returns.
- Liaise with HMRC and clients to resolve queries and conduct client meetings to review draft accounts.
- Perform ad hoc duties as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years UK practice experience
- Proven experience in managing teams within an accountancy setting.
- Strong understanding of VAT management and direct client handling.
- Experience in the construction industry and knowledge of CIS preferred.
- Familiarity with FRS 102 1A reporting requirements.
- Proficient in managing Limited Company and Sole Trader accounts, Capital Tax Gain computations, tax returns, and client bookkeeping.
- Proficient in using accounting software such as Iris, QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent, and Kashflow.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple client relationships.
