My client, a small legal firm in the West End, is currently seeking a Head Cashier to oversee their finance operations, ensuring efficiency and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising cashiers and billing clerks, managing daily workloads, and acting as the first point of contact for support and queries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance management within a legal or similar professional environment.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Supervise 2 cashiers and 1 billing clerk, managing daily workloads and acting as the first point of contact for support and queries.
- Oversee the cashiering inbox, ensuring tasks are completed, acting as a point of escalation for queries, and providing regular reports.
- Collaborate closely with the Finance Director on projects aimed at streamlining the cashiering and billing processes, as well as reporting and bank reconciliation.
- Manage the purchase ledger, reconcile supplier statements, credit cards, and counsel fee notes.
- Address queries from fee earners, support staff, and the bank.
- Develop relationships with all experts (including Chambers) to ensure that fee notes are requested across all matters regularly.
- Regularly review WIP, along with fee notes requested, ensuring that these are compared to the fees estimated to the client, and communicate with the fee earners when they come close to the limit so they can manage their clients.
- Provide monthly case status updates to each client being charged hourly to ensure full transparency per Legal Ombudsman guidelines.
- Raise invoices and send these to clients, along with chasers where appropriate.
- Attend billing meetings to update accounts across all matters, in lieu of the fee earners.
- Actively manage the firm's debt position, including following up with clients for payment.
- Provide cover and support to Legal Cashiers and Billing Clerk as necessary.
- Ensure that all transactions are handled in accordance with the SRA Accounts Rules.
- Liaise with external auditors, specifically in relation to the Solicitors Accounts Rules Audit.
