Job Description

My client is looking for a Groundsperson to join their dedicated team, where you will undertake essential grounds maintenance and landscaping duties to ensure that playing surfaces, open spaces and amenities are safe, secure, and well-maintained. This role is crucial in maintaining the aesthetic and functional aspects of local facilities, contributing to the community's enjoyment and safety.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks on playing surfaces and open spaces as directed, ensuring safe and clean environments.
  • Engage in the creation, marking out, and setting up of playing surfaces and surrounding areas, along with general maintenance duties.
  • Maintain and improve facilities through various horticultural and sports turf practices, including planting and machinery operation.
  • Collaborate with the Estates department team and potentially assist in other departments to maintain efficient service delivery.
  • Adhere to health and safety legislation, using correct procedures for the operation and maintenance of equipment such as hedge cutters, strimmers and ride-on mowers.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a similar grounds maintenance role.
  • Proficiency in operating turf machinery, including ride-on mowers.
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety legislation, standards and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining effective relationships with staff, customers, and the public.
  • Team-oriented with a positive, professional attitude and physical fitness.
  • Full driving licence or in the process of obtaining one within a set timeframe.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications, e.g., NVQ or Diploma in Sports Turf Management or similar
  • General DIY skills and experience in setting out and marking lines.
  • Modern approach to sports turf preparation and maintenance.

  • Flexible working hours with a standard schedule of Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:00, Friday 08:00-15:30.
