We are seeking experienced and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support a range of primary schools across Grimsby. This role is ideal for individuals who can take initiative in the classroom, deliver planned lessons, and confidently support pupils who present challenging behaviour or require more structured guidance.
As an HLTA, you may work across different classes and year groups, lead whole-class teaching when required, and support pupils with behavioural and learning needs. Flexible day-to-day and longer-term assignments are available to suit your schedule.
What You'll Be Doing
- Classroom Leadership & Teaching
- Leading whole-class learning using teacher-prepared plans
- Delivering small-group teaching and interventions
- Managing classroom routines and ensuring smooth transitions
- Providing clear instruction, structure, and consistency for learners
- Behaviour Support & Classroom Management
- Supporting pupils with challenging behaviour in both classroom and small-group settings
- Using effective de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies
- Maintaining consistent boundaries and reinforcing school expectations
- Supporting pupils' emotional regulation and wellbeing
- Working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain safe, calm learning environments
- Targeted Interventions & One-to-One Support
- Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH needs, or behavioural challenges
- Delivering targeted interventions under SENCO or teacher guidance
- Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback to staff
- Helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and self-regulation skills
- Flexibility & Professionalism
- Adapting quickly to new routines, teaching styles, and behaviour systems
- Supporting across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 when required
- Being available for pre-booked and same-day HLTA assignments
- Communicating effectively with school staff and your Reed consultant
To Thrive in This HLTA Role, You Will Demonstrate:
- Strong recent classroom experience (HLTA level or equivalent)
- Confidence in leading whole-class teaching when required
- Excellent behaviour management skills
- A calm, consistent, and proactive approach to challenging behaviour
- Strong communication, organisation, and teamwork abilities
- A professional attitude and commitment to safeguarding
- HLTA status or proven equivalent experience (highly desirable)
- A valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
