We are seeking a dedicated Construction Technician to provide high-quality training and instruction in practical skills to both young people and adults. This role also involves supporting teaching staff, participating in enrichment activities across departments, and maintaining campus facilities.
Day-to-day of the role of a Construction Technician:
- Develop learners' practical skills through planning and delivering training sessions.
- Supervise groups of learners on work experience and during enrichment activities.
- Collaborate with employers, lecturers, and other technician staff to enhance learning opportunities.
- Provide regular feedback to course teams on student progress.
- Maintain, prepare, and perform minor repairs on equipment used for classes.
- Manage inventories, stock control, and liaise with suppliers.
- Ensure a high standard of health and safety, cleanliness, and security within the unit.
- Conduct regular health and safety examinations of equipment, maintain COSHH records, and carry out PAT testing (training provided).
- Work flexibly with other technician staff to support practical estates work and assist students and staff across the campus.
Required Skills & Qualifications needed for the Construction Technician:
- Minimum of a Level 2 C&G or NVQ in Plumbing, Carpentry, Joinery or Electrical Installation.
- Experience working with young people aged 14 - 19.
- Sound practical experience within the industry.
- Proficiency in using a full range of equipment.
- Excellent IT, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Literacy and numeracy at Level 2.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, prioritise tasks, and use initiative.
- Current driving licence.
- Ideally hold a teaching/coaching qualification or be willing to train towards one.
