Job Purpose

Reed Further Education are recruiting Communication Support Worker across Merseyside

As a Communication Support Worker, you’ll play a key role in helping students fully engage with both their studies and college life.

Using your skills in British Sign Language (BSL), note-taking, lip-speaking, and adapting learning materials, you’ll provide high-quality communication support tailored to individual needs.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Deliver in-class and out-of-class communication support for D/deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Adapt learning materials and classroom environments to ensure full accessibility.
  • Encourage and support students in building independence and developing effective communication skills.
  • Manage and maintain specialist equipment to support learning.
  • Work collaboratively with tutors and the Additional Learning Support (ALS) team to remove barriers to learning.
  • Provide support during exams, academic reviews, and safeguarding meetings.
  • Assist with enrolment and induction activities to ensure a smooth transition into college life.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • British Sign Language Level 3 or above
  • Experience supporting individuals with hearing impairment
  • A strong understanding and commitment to safeguarding practices.
  • Minimum of GCSE A-C/Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the update service or the willingness to obtain one.
