We are seeking a dedicated Highway Structure Inspector to join our team in Rotherham. This role involves inspecting and recording the condition of highway structures within the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s Highway Network. The successful candidate will carry out General, Special, Monitoring, and Principal inspections in line with CG300 standards.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Conduct various types of inspections on highway structures including bridges, retaining walls, large culverts, rural footbridges, and high mast lighting columns to identify structural defects.
- Liaise with contractors and suppliers to arrange access equipment necessary for Principal Inspections.
- Ensure all accessible areas of bridges are inspected, requiring a reasonable fitness level to carry survey equipment and perform day-to-day duties.
- Input and retrieve data from electronic record systems/databases using AMX, the structures asset management software adopted by the council.
- Assist in managing the inspection programme to ensure timely execution as per council policies.
- Liaise with various stakeholders including Network Rail, Highways England, and English Heritage to coordinate inspection activities.
- Supervise on-site contractors and ensure compliance with County work standards.
- Support the development and implementation of maintenance and renewal plans for highway infrastructure.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- BICS Lantra Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme or ADEPT approved scheme equivalent.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in using AMX for data management and reporting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with various stakeholders.
- Capable of working independently on-site, adhering to lone working procedures.
- Full UK driving license.
