A well-established and growing accountancy practice based in Chelmsford is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join their friendly and professional team. The firm supports a diverse portfolio of clients, including SMEs, sole traders, and partnerships across various industries.
As a Bookkeeper, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records for a range of clients. You’ll be responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and supporting the wider accounting team with financial reporting and client queries.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for multiple clients
- Process invoices, receipts, payments, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in line with HMRC deadlines
- Assist with payroll processing and CIS returns (if applicable)
- Liaise with clients to gather financial information and resolve queries
- Support accountants with month-end and year-end processes
- Use accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
- Proven experience in a bookkeeping role, ideally within a practice environment
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and VAT regulations
- Proficiency in cloud-based accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts and meet deadlines
- AAT qualification (or working towards) is desirable but not essential
