Job Description
Multi-Skilled Engineer
- Location: Cambridge, On-site Full Time
- Salary: Competitive
- Shift Pattern: Days, Monday to Friday 8:30-17:00 (flexible)
Reed Engineering are working with a pioneering agri-tech company based in Cambridge, focused on transforming food waste into sustainable, high-value products using insect farming powered by artificial intelligence. They are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer to ensure the smooth operation of all electrical and mechanical systems across their production lines.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose and repair faults on PLC-controlled systems, motors, sensors, conveyors, and packaging machinery.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health & safety and food safety standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS system.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to resolve issues and improve line efficiency.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills with a good understanding of mechanical systems.
- Experience in a food, FMCG manufacturing environment (start up company experience would be beneficial).
- Familiarity with PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.) and automated systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and food safety standards is desirable.
- Proactive, team-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
