We have a fantastic opportunity for an MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Kier Mechanical and Electrical business delivering HMP Glasgow. Working within a dedicated MEP team managing the delivery of Β£180M + of packages across a major custodial facility, the MQS will take a role that will oversee the commercial team.
Location: HMP Glasgow, Royston
Hours: Full Time, Permanent. Opportunity for some flexibility / hybrid working.
What will you be responsible for?
- Day to day management of the MEP commercial team, empowering performance, acting as escalation point and taking a key role in managing the MEP sub contractor relationship in line with the contract.
- Comply with the procurement strategy set out from the beginning of the project.
- Valuation and measuring of change, advising on legal and contractual matters on orders and change.
- Valuation of project.
- Subcontractor administration including agreeing final accounts, production of notices, such as commencement and payment notices.
- Undertaking of monthly cost report, Commercial Plan internally and external Client Reports as required, production of records, such as progress reports.
- Undertaking project cashflows and turnover forecasts.
- Undertaking of Risk and Opportunity reporting and management.
- Producing margin improvement plans and driving margin into the project.
- Undertaking approvals of Material Purchases, checking all commercial risks and opportunities have been considered.
- All commercial tasks and reports updated monthly.
- Induct others in company systems, assist in introduction of new tasks, systems, techniques to other surveyors.
What are we looking for?
- Qualified, at degree level or HND/HNC (or similar) in Quantity Surveying.
- Full UK driving License.
- Experience managing and mentoring commercial teams / staff.
- Experienced surveyor with a variety of exposure to projects β ideally with some experience in main and sub contracting.
- Clear understanding of all main forms of contract JCT, NEC etc.
- Sound technical understanding of MEPH services, components that make up individual systems and how packages are broken out and the interfaces associated with this.
