We are working with a growing news organisation that covers stories relevant to Muslims in the UK and Europe and is now seeking an experienced Managing Editor to join its expanding, dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to help lead operations at a developing newsroom and to boost the impact of its storytelling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Day-to-Day Operations: Manage the company’s publishing operations, collaborating with editors to maintain up-to-date content spreadsheets and ensure the weekly schedule is filled with engaging stories and features.
- Audience & Engagement: Work alongside the social media team to create on-brand, high-quality posts across various platforms. Partner with multimedia producers to enhance content reach and engagement.
- Editorial Leadership: Help recruit and manage editorial staff, oversee the editorial budget, and regularly review policies to ensure compliance and best practices across the organisation.
- Legal Oversight: Collaborate with senior staff and legal advisers to manage legal risks associated with editorial content.
- Trend Monitoring: Stay informed about industry trends and innovations in digital storytelling, contributing to corporate and editorial best practices.
- Website and Social Media: Manage the website and social media publishing workflows.
We are Looking for:
- Experience: 4-5 years’ newsroom leadership experience and the ability to run a production schedule.
- Management Skills: Proven experience in managing people and overseeing an audience team (social media and video).
- Organisational Skills: Excellent planning, detail-oriented, and record-keeping abilities to run production schedules to deadlines.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Social Media Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of major social media platforms, comfortable adapting to changes and optimising content accordingly.
