Commissioning Editor – Medical Journals – Maternity Cover
Are you passionate about advancing medical knowledge? Here’s your opportunity to join the dynamic Medicine and Healthcare team of a leading global academic publisher, seeking a Commissioning Editor to play a pivotal role in shaping their medicine and healthcare journals. We are looking for a journal publishing professional who is looking to advance their career and work closely with some of the world’s leading experts in clinical research and drug development, while gaining a strong working knowledge of journal operations. This role is a maternity cover for up to 12 months and offered on a hybrid basis with 3 days in the London office and 2 days working from home.
You will be responsible for:
- Commissioning high quality, relevant content – identifying and developing engaging articles that resonate with the organisation’s readership.
- Developing a thorough understanding of key therapy areas and emerging topics in biomedical sciences through networking, social media and virtual/in person attendance at conferences.
- Collaborating closely with authors, editorial boards, and key opinion leaders to maintain a robust network.
- Overseeing Editorial Processes: Ensuring a smooth peer review and editorial decision-making process, maintaining the highest standards of quality.
- Conducting Reviews by regularly assessing processes to uphold industry-leading customer service.

We are looking for:
- A degree in biomedical sciences, due to the nature of the role and its requirements
- Relevant proven experience in scientific/medical publishing
- Experience with problem-solving, and ensuring ideas are explored
- Strong time management, problem-solving abilities, and a genuine curiosity about the healthcare industry.
- A proactive approach to exploring and implementing new ideas in medicine and healthcare.
