Job Description

Commissioning Editor – Content Acquisition

Redwood is very excited to be working with a leading global academic publishing organisation which is looking to hire 2 Commissioning Editors to join their Content Acquisition Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the commissioning of high-quality articles, ensuring a steady pipeline of published material across a range of diverse medicine and health journals. These roles are offered on a hybrid basis with at least 3 days a week in their London office and 2 days working from home.

This role will involve undertaking analysis of academic fields and growth areas, and engaging with researchers, building relationships with the research community and will work closely with the Journal Editors and Editorial Boards, as well as internal editorial teams. These roles offer the opportunity to develop your skills and experience within a thriving business.

In this pivotal position, some of the responsibilities will include:

Conduct structured analyses of relevant academic fields to pinpoint growth areas to identify opportunities for new content. Commission high-quality articles – drive article submissions across a portfolio of journals Develop and implement commissioning plans targeting key researchers and groups. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality content across the journal portfolio. Work closely with journal editors, editorial boards and internal teams. Maintain strong networks with researchers, authors, and key partners. Uphold editorial policies and continually enhance your knowledge of subject areas. Who we’re looking for:

Relevant academic or work experience, ideally in medicine and health disciplines, with experience in academic/STM journals publishing. Strong analytical abilities, effective prioritisation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ideally in a biological science subject High level of computer literacy, including MS Office and internet browsers; experience with Salesforce is a plus. Ability to work well with local and global colleagues at all levels Interest in Open Science: A genuine interest in open access, open data, and publishing and related matter.
