Redwood Secondary School is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised and motivated Extended Schools Coordinator to lead and develop our extended school provision. This is an exciting opportunity to build on and support shaping a vibrant, inclusive programme that supports children and young people with complex additional needs and positions the school as a hub for all of Rochdale.

The successful candidate will coordinate and deliver a wide range of extended school and extra-curricular activities, including breakfast club, after-school provision, holiday clubs, and youth activities, working in close partnership with the Extended Schools Manager, the Local Authority, other schools, families and external agencies. The role is temporary in the first instance; however, there may be an opportunity for the post to become permanent.

Working Pattern:

  • Monday: 8 am–4:30 pm
  • Tuesday: 8 am–4:30 pm
  • Wednesday: 7:30 am–4:30 pm
  • Thursday: 8 am–4:30 pm
  • Friday: No working day
  • Saturday: 8 am–12:30 pm
  • Sunday: No working day

Annual Leave Entitlement: 26 days’ leave plus up to 5 additional days after 5 years’ RMBC service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the development and implementation of Redwood School’s extended schools’ vision.
  • Manage and motivate staff working within extended school provision, including youth club, holiday club, breakfast club and after-school activities.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate high-quality educational and leisure activities for learners with a wide range of additional needs.
  • Work closely with the Local Authority and other schools to ensure cohesive provision across the borough.
  • Act as Educational Visits Coordinator, including undertaking risk assessments and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Develop effective systems for communication, consultation, monitoring and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding at all times.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers, professionals and external providers.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation.

The role includes working flexibly, with some evening, holiday and weekend work required.

About You:

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities. Essential requirements include:

  • Experience working with children or young people in an organised setting.
  • Experience planning and delivering educational and leisure activities for a range of ages and abilities.
  • Experience of managing staff and budgets.
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with learners, families, professionals and external agencies.
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings, school holidays and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications (or willingness to work towards).
  • Level 3 qualification in youth work, childcare, teaching assistance or play work (or willingness to work towards).
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Basic Food Hygiene (or willingness to work towards).

Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring and background check. The ability to converse at ease with customers and service users and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement of this post.
