At St Pauls Cathedral, we're more than a workplace - we're a community, rooted in our mission to be a Cathedral for London and the world. Every day we set out to welcome, inspire and support the many people who walk through our doors.

We're looking for a Chaperone to support the safety and welfare of our Choristers and Probationers while they are rehearsing in the Cathedral.

About the role

Part time, 10 hours per week during Chorister term-time.

  • Attend rehearsals in the Choir Practice Rooms, moving between activities taking place in the various rooms, when necessary, being available 10 minutes before and after the rehearsal.
  • Accompany the Choristers and Probationers on their journey from the Cathedral to the School after rehearsals (with Music Department staff).
  • Attend one Evensong service per week at which the Choristers are singing.
  • Be available to support the Choristers undertaking duties at times of national importance. These can occur unexpectedly and sometimes during the school holidays.
  • Ensure that Choristers are properly dressed and tidy prior to services.
  • Attend one meal per week in School breakfast/dinner/Sunday lunch.
  • Attend a team meeting once per half term.
About you

We're looking for someone who is warm, reliable and confident working with young people, and who will enjoy supporting our musical mission while prioritising the protection and welfare of our youngest members. This role could particularly suit someone looking for part-time work alongside study or other commitments in the City of London.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience working with children or young people aged seven to 13, whether through schools, music, youth groups, sports coaching, tutoring, volunteering or similar settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good judgement and the ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment.
  • An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Flexibility and reliability, with the ability to build positive professional relationships with choristers and colleagues.

The successful candidate will need to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with Barred Lists.

Safeguarding

We take safeguarding very seriously, and meet people where they are - with care, respect and understanding - to create an environment where everyone feels safe and supported. The successful applicant will share this commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Diversity and inclusivity

As a Cathedral for London and the world, we welcome people from all backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We know that a diverse team strengthens everything we do, and we warmly encourage applications from candidates who may not always see themselves reflected in organisations like ours. We also know that nobody meets every requirement on paper. If you're excited about this role and feel you could make a positive contribution, we encourage you to apply and would love to hear from you.

Please note that the Cathedral is open 365 days per year, therefore, there is a requirement for bank holiday working.

The closing date for the vacancy is Sunday 28th June 2026. Interviews will take place week commencing 6th July 2026.
