Job Description
Graduate Hardware Engineer
A fantastic opportunity for a Graduate Hardware Engineer to join a growing engineering team working on complex, high-integrity systems. This role is ideal for recent graduates, although we also welcome applications from candidates with up to a few years’ experience. You’ll gain exposure to the full hardware development lifecycle — from requirements capture and system architecture, through to schematic design, PCB layout, mechanical design, and testing — contributing to innovative projects in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Location: A few miles outside of Derby (onsite role due to the nature of the work)
Salary: £32,000+ per annum DOE + excellent benefits
Requirements for Graduate Hardware Engineer
- Degree (BEng or similar) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
- Understanding of electronic schematics and PCB layouts
- Appreciation of mechanical aspects of product design (ideally with CAD exposure)
- Knowledge of the product development lifecycle (academic or indusrial)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team
- Must be eligible for DV security clearance (this usually means you have been a UK resident for 10+ years, have a clean criminal record etc)
Beneficial experience (not essential):
- PCB design and component selection
- Mechanical design using CAD tools
- Design for manufacture
- Test, debug and simulation tools
- Programming skills in C or C# for internal systems/test applications
- Practical experience with CPU/MPU-based designs
Responsibilities for Graduate Hardware Engineer
- Contribute to all aspects of hardware development, from requirements through to production
- Assist with schematic and PCB design for electronic systems
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on product development
- Produce clear documentation in line with engineering standards
- Work as part of a highly collaborative team solving challenging technical problems
