An exciting opportunity for an experienced Internal Legal Counsel to join a cutting-edge technology company developing highly innovative hardware and AI software products. As the business continues to scale, they are looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to establish and develop their in-house legal capability, becoming a trusted advisor to senior leadership across a broad range of strategic business matters. This is a rare opportunity to join an ambitious technology business where legal is viewed as a strategic business function, helping to shape commercial decisions, manage risk, and support the company's continued growth. Location: North Uttlesford / Greater Cambridge Area (5 days onsite)

Requirements for Internal Legal Counsel:
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent recognised jurisdiction)
- Significant post-qualification experience gained in-house and/or within a leading commercial law firm
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Excellent knowledge of technology law, intellectual property, software licensing, and data protection legislation
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Applicants must be fully eligible to work in the UK without restriction, time limit, or sponsorship
Desirable:
- Experience within an AI, software, SaaS, or high-growth technology company
- Knowledge of AI governance, emerging AI regulation, or responsible AI frameworks
- Experience implementing legal operations, contract management systems, or compliance programmes
Responsibilities for Internal Legal Counsel:
- Provide commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of business activities
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements including customer, supplier, partnership, licensing, SaaS, and confidentiality agreements
- Advise on legal matters relating to AI technologies, software licensing, intellectual property, data protection, privacy, and emerging regulatory frameworks
- Support corporate governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives across the business
- Monitor developments in UK and international legislation affecting AI and technology businesses, providing practical guidance to stakeholders
- Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic business decisions and manage legal risk
- Manage relationships with external legal advisers where specialist expertise is required
- Help shape and develop the company's internal legal function as the business continues to grow
