Reds 10 designs and builds high-quality sustainable buildings for the public sector with a particular focus on defence, accommodation, education and justice. Based in our London or Slough offices, we are recruiting a Lead Design Manager for our Defence Sector to oversee a number of projects ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality design solutions for projects from inception to completion.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the design process for projects, leading design team and sub-contractors and ensuring design meets project requirements and standards.
- Prepare and monitor design programs, ensuring deliverables are met and project timelines are maintained.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of design variables at each stage of the design development process.
- Manage the design team, providing support and guidance as needed.
- Identify and mitigate design risks, including health and safety and financial risks.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards including CTM.
- Manage the flow of design information and the Document Control.
- Manage the design process from inception to completion, including producing design proposals, managing the tender process, and overseeing the construction phase.
- Liaise with other teams within the company to ensure the design process is integrated with other aspects of the project.
- Develop and maintain effective project documentation, including project plans, risk assessments, and design briefs.
- Manage project budgets and ensure financial targets are met.
- Ensure all design work is completed to a high standard, within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Keep up-to-date with developments in design techniques, software, and technology.
- Develop and implement design policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement of the design function, efficiency and quality.
Key skills
- Architectural or Design qualifications.
- Experience in delivering design for civil & structural packages.
- Good knowledge of the design process, at commercial and construction design stages with a main contractor.
- Understands the RIBA plan of work.
- Working knowledge of building regulations.
- Understanding of key design principles such as M&E design parameters, fire and acoustic requirements.
- Understands the principles of Building Contract and Consultant Contracts.
- Good knowledge of contractual issues related to consultants.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent people management skills with track record of improving and developing team.
- Able to develop and maintain excellent working relationships and build trust with all levels of team internally and externally.
- Great attention to detail and able to handle multiple projects.
Please be aware that many roles at Reds10 require Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) or Enhanced Level 1 (EL1) clearance, depending on the sector you will be working in. All applicants must, at a minimum, achieve BPSS or EL1 clearance. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting, where applicants must typically have 3-5 years of continuous residency in the UK, depending on the vetting level required for the role.
