A leading organisation in the Cardiff area requires a Mainframe Engineer to join its internal team. Duties will include the following:
- Supporting major incidents across core banking, payments and job scheduling platforms, providing technical direction, coordinating recovery activities, and keeping stakeholders informed.
- Acting as escalation point for complex incidents and problems, providing 3rd-line support and driving esolution.
- Owning platform health through improvements in monitoring, automation, operational tooling, job scheduling and service reliability.
- Managing system and database administration, ensuring performance, resilience, capacity and recovery requirements are met.
- Designing and testing DR capabilities and maintaining effective runbooks, procedures and recovery plans.
- Leading on complex system changes and releases, ensuring operational readiness, robust controls and successful service outcomes.
- Promoting best practice, knowledge sharing and continual improvement across operations team.
- Coaching and mentoring colleagues and helping to build a resilient, high-performing team.
Suitable candidates will have
- A strong knowledge of mainframe operations (ideally Unisys but will flex)
- Substantial experience in IT operations, infrastructure, and production support environments
- Expertise in job scheduling and monitoring tools
Additionally, experience of the following would be useful
- SQL Server skills (such as performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup & restore)
- Experience with Windows environments, Power Shell, SFTP and Azure Dev Ops
