We’re partnering with a globally recognised technology organisation operating at the forefront of cyber threat intelligence and large-scale data platforms. This is not a greenfield build role.
If you enjoy owning real, live production systems, solving complex scaling challenges, and improving platforms that genuinely operate at global impact, this will suit you.
The Opportunity
You’ll join a highly capable engineering team responsible for mission-critical backend systems that power large-scale data analysis and internet intelligence services. A core part of the role will be maintaining, optimising, and evolving existing platforms, with a strong focus on:
- Reliability
- Performance
- Stability
- Security
There’s also opportunity to contribute to incremental modernisation, working with technologies like Go and TypeScript - but the heart of this role is engineering ownership, not constant rebuilds.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning and improving production backend systems
- Enhancing and maintaining legacy platforms (Perl-based)
- Diagnosing and resolving performance and scaling bottlenecks
- Driving system reliability and incident prevention
- Writing clean, well-tested, well-documented code
- Collaborating across engineering teams to ensure seamless integrations
- Identifying long-term improvements rather than quick fixes
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience working on production backend systems
- Background in Perl OR similar backend languages
- Solid SQL knowledge (MySQL/MariaDB) — including query optimisation
- Experience working in Linux environments (CLI tools, scripting)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent)
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, TLS)
- Experience with CI/CD, Git, and system ownership in production
Nice to Have
- Go or TypeScript experience
- Exposure to event-driven or asynchronous systems
- Docker / Kubernetes
- Experience working on long-lived, high-scale systems
- Interest in cybersecurity or internet infrastructure
Why This Role?
- Work on systems with genuine global impact
- Join a team that values ownership, autonomy, and engineering quality
- Be part of a business investing in long-term platform evolution
- Strong focus on learning, development, and internal progression
- Competitive benefits package including healthcare, enhanced leave, and equity-style incentives
